Meeting C++ 2022 - what to expect

This years Meeting C++ conference is coming closer and closer. Soon it will be less then a month.

A good impression of what to expect might give you the article on how the conference in 2014 was. I expect that the onsite experience is similar in 2022, except that Scott Meyers isn't with us this year. But when you look closely, you will see that Klaus Iglberger gave a talk back then. Also then

So the conference will be hosted in the Saphir room, this years main room has daylight! During the program we'll be having 3 tracks in parallel onsite, with one live/prerecorded track online. The program in the main hall will be live streamed to the online audience. The evening program in 2022 is online: AMAs with Andrei Alexandrescu, Inbal Levi and Bjarne Stroustrup.

One difference to 2014 is, that we'll be less onsite. At the moment I expect 250 attendees for the onsite part, we might get to a few more. Space will be a premium this year, you'll share a table with one or two other persons. Put up a name sign and this will be your spot for the whole conference.

The schedule shows the overall plan for the program, the first two days begin with the keynotes, on the last day we end with a keynote. The schedule is very much like it has been in 2019 with the timing. I want to return to the format that has served us well in the last decade. I'm looking forward to all keynotes, Nicolai Josuttis will set the tune on the first day, on Friday morning Daniela Engert will show us how contemporary C++ looks in 2022 and the conference will end onsite with Klaus Iglberger. In the evening on Saturday we'll be having the honor to close the online part with an AMA hosting Bjarne Stroustrup.

As we are still in the pandemic, the onsite conference will have to recognize this with a set of rules. I don't want to host a mass spreading event that does damage to the very community that comes every year to Meeting C++: attendees, speakers, sponsors and the staff and the hotel staff itself. At the moment this is still taking its final shape, as laws are being prepared. What I can say for sure is, we will have a mask mandate in the rooms the conference hosts its sessions in. On the hallways its a shared space, and the hotel/general rules will apply there. I try to find guidance in what the RKI is advising in the following weeks. If you can get an updated vaccination, please do so. The rules for checking vaccination status are not in place anymore. Checking for it would be an effort we can spend better on other things. As the vaccination status has unfortunately not proven to be effective against the spread of Covid-19.
