Its just a few days left, until the first Meeting C++ Conference kicks off. So, I think its time to write about what you as an attendee can expect. First, the most details are already in the schedule, which you also can download as PDF. We will be about 145 people at the conference!
So, the details, I start with the Event Area:
This is part of the hotel, and the area where Meeting C++ will take place. Registration will be in front of our keynote room Heinrich Heine, after the keynote we'll have a short Coffeebreak, and then start with the Talks in Cornelius I + II. Which are labeled in the schedule as Track A and B, regarding the talks, we try to record every talk, and plan to upload them later to youtube. Arround 12 we have lunch on both days, please note that you'll have to pay for the drinks at lunch for yourself, while the drinks in the event area are free.
We will be arround 145 People at the event site, including speakers, sponsors and staff. The staff, that is 6 people, I'd like to mention, that none of us is actually a "professional Event Person", we are mostly also C++ Programmers from the local User Group, not Marketing People. So, we try to handle the chaos, but it is also for us the first Meeting C++! There will be 4 Sponsorsbooth integrated into the Eventsite, where you can chat with folks from Intel, BlackBerry, KDAB and think-cell.
On Thursday evening we will have a get-together at the Hotelbar, where you also can pre Register for Friday. On Friday evening we will have a 4 course dinner sponsored by think-cell! Also, important: We do have Internet now! As an Attendee you can get a free internet voucher from the hotel!
And last but not least, a little history. How did Meeting C++ get started? Our roots and staff comes from the local C++ User Group which meets once a month. In May I did travel to 2 major C++ Conferences, which both had their favors, and especially the days in aspen at C++Now motivated me to think about organizing, what is now Meeting C++. Surprisingly, I made really good contacts for germany in Aspen, and every person I talked to from europe, was very open for the Idea of a european C++ conference. So, after the days in Aspen, I was convinced that it was worth a try, to start Meeting C++. But, to be honest, I would never have thought that it would turn out to be such a success. So, I do look forward to see ya all at friday at the conference!
A last side note, for myself the conference starts on Wednesday, when Michael Wong arrives, and hopefully the last materials for the conference too.
